Githunguri, Kenya – August 21, 2024: Outspoken Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has issued a rallying call to leaders from the Mt Kenya region, urging them to stand firmly behind Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and resist any attempts to disrespect him. Speaking at a funeral in Githunguri, where Gachagua was in attendance, Wamuchomba emphasized the need for unity among Mt Kenya leaders, drawing parallels with the cohesion seen in Rift Valley politics.

A Call for Unity in Mt Kenya

During the burial of a relative of Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa, Wamuchomba highlighted the growing need for leaders in Mt Kenya to rally behind Gachagua, who has faced criticism and been labeled a "villager" by some detractors. However, Wamuchomba dismissed these labels, affirming that they would not deter Gachagua from his mission to unite the region.

"Let them call you a villager, but we will support you," Wamuchomba declared, expressing her unwavering backing for the Deputy President. She emphasized that Mt Kenya leaders should emulate the Rift Valley's respect and loyalty to their leaders, a unity she believes is essential for the region's political strength.

Defending Gachagua and the Mt Kenya Legacy

Wamuchomba also took a strong stance against those who criticize Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, warning that such behavior would not be tolerated. She underscored the importance of respect for leadership, particularly within the Mt Kenya region, which has historically played a pivotal role in Kenya’s political landscape.

"We know those people who walk around abusing Rigathi Gachagua and former president Uhuru Kenyatta, and we will not allow that character," she stated.

A Broader Message of National Unity

Joining Wamuchomba in the call for unity was Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, who stressed the importance of nationwide solidarity. Gakuya urged Kenyans to embrace unity as the driving force that will propel the country forward, beyond regional politics.

"Unity is the only act that will move the country forward," Gakuya asserted, aligning his message with the broader theme of cohesion and collective progress.

As Mt Kenya leaders continue to navigate the complex dynamics of national politics, Wamuchomba’s call for solidarity behind Gachagua signals a growing effort to consolidate the region’s influence and ensure its leaders are respected on the national stage.
