Sudi Hits Back at Gachagua’s 'One-Term' Remark, Tells Ex-DP to Stay in Retirement
NAIROBI, Kenya – April 20, 2025
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has publicly ridiculed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his continued attacks on President William Ruto, particularly his recent declaration that Ruto will not be re-elected in 2027.
In a strongly worded video shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sudi dismissed Gachagua’s prediction as “irrelevant noise” and emphasized that the current government is focused on fulfilling its development agenda, not engaging in political drama.
“It’s okay if you believe Ruto will serve one term—after all, you left office before us. That’s what matters,” Sudi said with a smirk.
Sudi Defends Ruto’s Leadership, Slams Gachagua’s Past Record
Sudi, a key ally of President Ruto, was quick to highlight Gachagua’s own failures while in office, accusing him of alienating himself from both elected leaders and ordinary citizens. He urged the impeached former Deputy President to step aside from political commentary and focus on his own political rehabilitation.
“You failed to connect with Kenyans, failed to lead effectively, and now you want to distract the country with bitterness. Just accept that you’re no longer in office,” Sudi added.
The MP affirmed Kenya Kwanza’s unity and determination, noting that they were “well-organized and fully in control” heading into the next election cycle.
Gachagua Ramps Up Opposition Rhetoric Against Ruto
Gachagua, who was ousted from office in October 2024, has not shied away from criticizing the Ruto administration. Since his political comeback, he has been vocally positioning himself in opposition and is seen as a potential presidential aspirant in 2027.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) headquarters earlier this year, Gachagua pledged to mobilize Kenyans and political allies to ensure Ruto serves only one term.
“We are ready to make any sacrifice to rescue this country from what it has become under Ruto,” Gachagua said on January 27.
His “One Term, Round One” slogan has become a rallying cry during recent public appearances, the most recent being in Ngong Town on April 13, where he accused Ruto’s regime of authoritarianism and mismanagement.
Rift Between Former Allies Deepens Ahead of 2027 Elections
The clash between Sudi and Gachagua reflects deepening political fractures within Kenya’s ruling elite. What began as a united front in 2022 under the Kenya Kwanza banner has morphed into a battlefield of accusations and counterclaims.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, observers predict more internal rivalries will emerge, especially from ex-allies seeking new political ground after being sidelined. For now, Sudi remains Ruto’s staunch defender, as Gachagua rebrands himself as the face of dissent.
