Murder Confession Leads Police to Body of Boda Boda Rider in Baringo

KABARNET, Kenya

A suspect arrested in Eldoret has confessed to the brutal murder of a boda boda rider from Baringo, leading police to the victim’s concealed body in a remote valley in Kabartonjo.

The victim, Kevin Kibichii, had been missing since Thursday, sparking concern among friends and family. His disappearance took a tragic turn on Monday after the suspect was apprehended while riding Kibichii’s motorbike.

Eldoret Arrest Unravels Shocking Crime Trail

The unidentified suspect was detained in Eldoret town after he was found in possession of the stolen motorbike. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to killing Kibichii and later directed investigators to the crime scene—a thicket hidden deep within a valley near Kabartonjo.

Police believe the rider was lured into a trap by the suspect, who posed as a client seeking boda boda transport within Kabarnet town. Once isolated, Kibichii was attacked and murdered, his body left in a remote area to conceal the crime.

Authorities Suspect Serial Criminal Activity

Baringo County Police Commander Julius Kiragu confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing. Authorities suspect this may not be the man's first violent crime.

“We are pursuing all leads, and there is reason to believe the suspect may be part of a wider robbery network, or potentially a serial killer targeting unsuspecting riders,” Kiragu stated.

The motorbike theft and murder have reignited concerns over the safety of boda boda operators, who often work late hours and carry unknown passengers without security measures.

Community in Mourning, Security Calls Intensify

The gruesome discovery has shocked residents of Baringo, with many calling for heightened security and better vetting systems for passengers. Boda boda associations are now urging riders to avoid late-night pick-ups and report suspicious behavior to local authorities.

Kevin Kibichii's body was taken to the Baringo County Hospital mortuary as his family begins preparations for burial. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody, awaiting arraignment as detectives piece together more evidence.

The tragic killing underscores the growing danger faced by Kenya’s boda boda community and raises urgent questions about safety, surveillance, and justice.
