Authorities Hunt for Man Who Stabbed Ex-Girlfriend in Jealous Rage
Kisumu, Kenya – Authorities in Kisumu East
Sub-County have launched a full-scale search for a man accused of stabbing his
former girlfriend in a vicious attack following their breakup. The suspect
allegedly tracked down the woman to her new boyfriend’s home in Nyakbong’
village, where he launched the assault.
The victim, a 24-year-old woman, is currently
battling for her life at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital
after suffering two serious stab wounds — one to her chest and another to her
ear.

Turns Violent as Police Pursue Jealous Ex in Kisumu
According to a statement from the Directorate
of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the man was enraged after being left by his
ex-girlfriend. Driven by jealousy and refusal to accept the end of the
relationship, he stormed into her new partner’s residence at approximately 4:45
p.m. on Friday.
The suspect reportedly found the woman alone
in the house and launched a targeted knife attack with the intent to kill.
However, her screams for help drew the attention of nearby residents, who
rushed in just in time to stop the fatal act.
“Witnesses say the man was furious that his ex
had moved on and was determined to end her life,” noted the DCI report.
Neighbours quickly intervened and managed to rescue the bleeding victim before
the attacker fled the scene.

Violence Concerns Rise Amid Ongoing Gender-Based Violence Crisis
Police officers and members of the local
community have now joined forces in tracking down the fugitive, who is believed
to still be within the Kisumu area. Authorities have called on residents to
report any sightings or suspicious activity that could help lead to his
capture.
This chilling incident comes amid growing
national concern over gender-based violence and femicide in Kenya. In response
to escalating cases, President William Ruto recently established a 42-member
Technical Working Group to lead the national response to GBV and femicide.
The task force, led by Dr. Nancy Baraza, is
mandated to assess the current trends in violence against women, propose
stronger legislative measures, and offer community-driven solutions to stem the
rising tide of intimate partner violence.
Call for
Swift Justice and Tougher Laws
Human rights activists and gender advocates
have condemned the Kisumu attack, urging the police to act swiftly and bring
the suspect to justice. The case has sparked renewed debate on the need for enhanced
protection mechanisms for women and survivors of domestic abuse.
“This is not just a crime of passion — it’s a
violent act that reflects a broader societal failure to protect women,” said
one Kisumu-based activist. “We need urgent legal reforms and a stronger
community response.”
As the victim continues her recovery in
hospital, police are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s
whereabouts to come forward. Meanwhile, the country continues to grapple with
addressing deep-rooted gender inequalities and violence in relationships.
