Two Feared Missing After Flash Floods Sweep Away MCA’s Vehicle in Isiolo
A frantic search is underway in Isiolo County after a devastating flood swept away a vehicle linked to a local legislator, leaving two individuals unaccounted for. The tragedy occurred on Friday night, April 18, 2025, when torrential rains unleashed flash floods that overwhelmed several parts of the region.
The Toyota Prado, registered to Oldonyiro Member of County Assembly (MCA) David Lemantile, was crossing the KMC Bridge when it was carried off by powerful floodwaters. The SUV had three passengers onboard at the time, although the MCA was not among them.
Floods Cause Havoc in Isiolo as Search Continues for Missing Duo
Local authorities confirmed that one of the occupants managed to escape through the vehicle's window moments before it was submerged. However, the other two individuals remain missing despite extensive efforts by police and local rescue teams.
Officers from Isiolo Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and managed to retrieve the vehicle wreckage. Unfortunately, the missing individuals had not been located as of Saturday morning.
The floods, which began following a relentless downpour, have wreaked havoc across Isiolo County. Over 200 families residing in Soko Mjinga have reportedly been displaced, and emergency response efforts are ongoing.
A resident speaking to the press highlighted the emotional toll the disaster has taken, revealing that a child had also been swept away by the waters. "The child was seen in the floods, but due to panic and assumptions, no rescue was made immediately," the witness said.
Heavy Rains Disrupt Multiple Regions Across Kenya
Elsewhere, in Baringo County’s Mogotio region, a lorry transporting merchandise was washed away while attempting to cross the swollen Majimoto River. Eye-witnesses reported that the floodwaters were triggered by a surge from upstream rains, turning the river into a dangerous torrent.
The Kenya Meteorological Service issued a weather warning on April 18, advising residents across the country to prepare for a wet Easter weekend. The advisory highlighted increased rainfall activity expected in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern Lowlands, and Coastal regions.
Meteorological Director David Gikungu noted that mornings would likely remain cloudy, followed by heavy afternoon downpours accompanied by thunderstorms.
As climate patterns continue to shift unpredictably, Kenyans are urged to remain vigilant and avoid crossing flooded roads or rivers. Emergency response teams remain on high alert, and communities in flood-prone zones are being closely monitored to prevent further tragedies.
