Nairobi, Kenya – August 21, 2024: Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to take an active role in supervising and ensuring the successful implementation of government programmes and projects within their areas of jurisdiction. Speaking at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete, Gachagua emphasized the importance of NGAOs in safeguarding the dignity of President William Ruto by ensuring that projects are completed as planned and do not stall.

Guarding the Dignity of the Presidency

Addressing the officers, Gachagua stressed that they are the President's representatives on the ground and must assume responsibility for the timely and effective delivery of government projects. "It is your responsibility to protect the dignity of the person of the President. When the President has launched a project and the contractor has abandoned the site after one week, the dignity of the person of the President is put into question," Gachagua stated.

He urged the officers to monitor the progress of projects closely and report any issues to the relevant Principal Secretaries and Cabinet Secretaries to ensure timely interventions. “If it happens, you must inform the respective Principal Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for necessary interventions to be made,” he added.

NGAOs as the President’s Eyes and Ears

Gachagua highlighted the critical role of NGAOs in representing the President at the grassroots level, both in a personal and official capacity. He encouraged the officers to take a keen interest in all government programmes, regardless of the ministry involved, to ensure their success.

“You are the ear and the eye of the President at the grassroots. When government programmes are not going well and you are quiet, you have let the President down," said Gachagua. "Take a keen interest in all government programmes going on in your areas of jurisdiction irrespective of the ministry, because you represent the President.”

Commending NGAOs for Their Efforts

The Deputy President also took the opportunity to commend NGAOs for their efforts in various government initiatives. He praised their role in combating drugs and illicit brews, which he noted has been successful due to their coordination and input. "The fight against illicit brews has been successful, and we are getting testimonies from women and young people on the great job you have done. Keep it up and don’t let your guard down,” he encouraged.

Additionally, Gachagua appreciated their efforts in coordinating the registration of farmers and the distribution of subsidized fertilizer, as well as their work in ensuring the success of the Inua Jamii Programme and distributing relief food during emergencies.

Moving Forward

As the government continues to roll out various projects and initiatives across the country, Gachagua’s message to NGAOs underscores the importance of vigilance, accountability, and active involvement in ensuring that these projects are implemented effectively and benefit all Kenyans as intended.
