Cocaine Smuggling Foiled: DCI Officers Arrest Two Women in Separate Moyale Drug Busts
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting two women in separate cases after cocaine was found hidden in their bodies. The incidents took place in Moyale, Marsabit County, during highway inspections along the Moyale-Nairobi route.
In the first arrest, a 45-year-old woman became the subject of police interest after she refused to undergo a routine search while traveling in a Toyota Probox headed to Marsabit. Her resistance immediately raised suspicions among officers, prompting further action.
Routine Check Turns Into Major Drug Seizure in Moyale
According to DCI officials, while other passengers complied, the woman’s defiance led to her being escorted to Moyale Sub-County Referral Hospital for a medical examination. Scans revealed eight pellets of cocaine weighing approximately 414 grams concealed inside her body.
“The recovered narcotics have a street value of Ksh1.6 million and have been secured as evidence,” DCI officers confirmed. The suspect is currently in custody at Moyale Police Station awaiting prosecution.
Second Smuggler Caught with Cocaine Hours Later
In a separate operation just a day earlier, another woman, aged 28, was apprehended along the same highway. Officers flagged her suspicious conduct during a passenger vehicle search. Unlike other travelers, her behavior triggered alarm, leading to a more thorough examination.
Female officers conducted a search, and drugs were discovered concealed internally. The woman was immediately booked into Moyale Police Station as anti-narcotics investigators took over the case.
“Fear often gives away the guilty,” detectives commented. “She was isolated, searched, and the suspicion was confirmed.”
DCI Intensifies Anti-Narcotics Efforts in Northern Kenya
The two back-to-back arrests underscore growing concerns over the northern corridor being used as a trafficking route for illegal drugs. Authorities have promised increased vigilance, especially in border areas and major transit highways.
Both women now face serious charges under Kenya’s anti-narcotics laws, which could lead to lengthy prison terms if convicted.
The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the ongoing war against drug trafficking.
