Babu Owino Declares Interest in 2027 Presidential Race as ODM Faces Internal Storm

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has dropped a political bombshell, declaring his readiness to vie for Kenya's presidency in the 2027 general elections. The youthful legislator made this revelation during a candid media briefing on April 19, confidently asserting his superiority over the current president, William Ruto.

Owino, known for his bold political style and eloquence, claimed he is more than qualified to ascend to the country's top office, saying his connection with the grassroots gives him a unique edge.

“Right now, I’m more than ready to challenge President Ruto. No one but Babu Owino can defeat him squarely—long before polling day,” the legislator said defiantly.

Breaking Boundaries: Babu Owino's Bold Presidential Vision

The outspoken MP didn’t limit his ambitions to the presidency alone. He remarked that he’s equally equipped to lead Nairobi as governor or continue serving as MP, but his ultimate focus remains on impactful leadership.

“It’s not just about elections. What matters is what you do with the mandate given by the people,” he remarked, emphasizing service delivery over titles.

Babu highlighted his own life experiences as a major political strength. Raised in hardship, he believes his journey mirrors that of most Kenyans, which, he said, allows him to serve the public more effectively.

He added that any office he chooses to pursue in 2027 would be influenced by divine guidance and a desire to uplift ordinary citizens.

“Whichever role I go for in 2027, it will be driven by God’s direction and the will to serve Kenyans honestly,” Owino affirmed.

Rallying the Youth: Gen Z Urged to Take Political Charge

In a passionate appeal to Kenya’s youth, Owino called on Gen Z and millennials to not only vote but also run for elective positions. He insisted that everyone who participates in the electoral process is inherently a politician.

“Every Kenyan who casts a vote is a participant in governance. If you vote, you’re a politician—only some become leaders while others become dealers,” he noted, criticizing opportunistic politics.

He urged the younger generation to take advantage of their numbers, which he said make up nearly 70% of the population. According to Owino, this demographic can collectively decide the country’s leadership direction if they rise to the occasion.

“Youth can produce a president, governors, senators—even MCAs. Let’s not just vote; let’s lead,” he concluded.

As internal tensions simmer within ODM, Babu Owino’s ambitious statement adds a new dimension to the already charged political atmosphere. His bold declaration sets the stage for a potentially transformative 2027 contest.
